SSC signature size in KB and pixels
Your SSC signature must be a JPG or JPEG file between 10 KB and 20 KB. For dimensions, the SSC CGL 2026 notice mentions two references: about 4.0 × 2.0 cm in its Annexure and about 6.0 × 2.0 cm in the main text. Both presets are above. If the portal shows a specific size while you are applying, follow what the portal says, and keep the file inside 10–20 KB.
A file below 10 KB is rejected just like a file above 20 KB. Signatures are small images that often compress below 10 KB, so this tool automatically adds invisible padding to bring the file back inside the range without changing how it looks.
How to resize your signature for SSC
- Sign in your normal running handwriting with a black pen on plain white, unlined paper. Signatures in capital letters are not accepted.
- Photograph it in daylight from directly above, with no shadow of your hand or phone.
- Add the photo above, choose an SSC signature preset, and zoom until the signature fills most of the box.
- Keep Whiten paper background on so the paper turns clean white and the ink becomes dark.
- When the result shows green, download it and upload it on the SSC portal.
SSC has warned that very small, "miniature" signatures are a major reason for rejection. Make sure your signature covers at least about 80% of the box. The zoom slider helps with this.
SSC live photo rules
Because the photo is captured live, you can't fix it with a resizer afterwards, so set up well before you start:
- Sit facing a plain, light-coloured wall with even light on your face and no shadows.
- Remove spectacles, caps and masks. SSC's live capture instructions ask you not to wear glasses.
- Keep your face centred and look straight at the camera.
- Don't hold an old printed photo up to the camera. Capturing a picture of a photograph leads to rejection.
Which SSC exams does this apply to?
The same signature rules are used across SSC exams such as CGL, CHSL, MTS, GD Constable, CPO, Stenographer, JE and Selection Posts, but each notification can change the details. Check the "photograph and signature" section of your exam's notice before applying, and use the Custom size option if its numbers differ.
