UPSC photo and signature size
UPSC accepts only JPG/JPEG images. Guides for the 2026 cycle agree that images should be between 350 and 1000 pixels, but they differ on the upper KB limit for the photo (200 KB or 300 KB) and for the signature (100 KB or 300 KB). The presets above stay inside the stricter limits, 20–200 KB for the photo and 20–100 KB for the signature, so the files pass either way.

Name and date on the UPSC photo
Many recent UPSC notifications, including Civil Services, NDA, CDS and CAPF, ask for the candidate's name and the date the photograph was taken to appear at the bottom of the photo. The photograph preset turns this on for you. Type your name exactly as in your application, check the date, and the tool prints both in a white strip below your photo, keeping your face at the right proportion above it.
UPSC photograph rules
- Use a recent colour photo with a plain white background. Some notices require it to be taken within a short period before you apply, so check yours.
- Your face should cover about three-quarters of the photo, looking straight at the camera with both ears visible.
- Keep a neutral expression with your eyes open.
- Avoid tinted glasses and any glare on spectacles.
- Your appearance in the exam hall and interview should match the photo.
UPSC also captures a live photograph during the application for identity verification.
UPSC triple signature
Sign your name three times, one below the other, with a black pen on plain white paper, in your normal running handwriting. Photograph the whole block from directly above in daylight, choose the signature preset, and zoom so all three signatures fill the frame with a small margin. Keep background whitening on.
Both presets save the files as photo.jpg and signature.jpg, the file names UPSC instructions mention.
